    What is a COURTDECAL?

A professional quality decal kit for hardwood sport floor surfaces. Basketball-Proof, Non-Slip, coated decals, that meet the new NCAA basketball committee rules for “consistent surface”. This means COURTDECALS can be used ANYWHERE on the playing court! COURTDECALS are safe, easy to apply, and come in any size!

    Are COURTDECALS permanent?

COURTDECALS are temporary or semi-permanent floor decals that are were developed so they could be removed from your court surface easily. If you want a permanent logo on your court surface it should be painted. COURTDECALS can be used for weekend tournaments, holiday classics, special event floors, or an entire season if maintained properly.  If you plan to leave your COURTDECAL on your floor for an entire season 2-3 coats of COURTDECAL GUARD should applied over your decal.  COURTDECALS are excellent for temporarily covering up old logos or advertisements that no longer meet your branding guidelines.

    How does it work?

Send us your artwork and a custom COURTDECAL kit will be shipped to you.  Each kit includes the COURTDECAL (vinyl floor graphic), COURTDECAL PREP (cleaning/prep solution), COURTDECAL GUARD (a liquid gloss protective coating that meets the NCAA’s consistent surface rule and dries to the touch within 3-4 hours and is ready to play on within 6-8 hours), blue squeegee applicator, synthetic paint pad applicator, blue masking tape, and a thumb drive with digital instructions.

A cleaning solution that is used to clean the existing floor surface to ensure your floor decal adheres properly. It can be used on floors with waterborne or oil-modified coatings. It will not damage your surface. COURTDECAL PREP should also be used to clean your decal prior to application of COURTDECAL GUARD.

A glossy, slip-resistant, protective decal coating that was engineered to be consistent with your existing waterborne or oil modified hardwood sport floor finish. It is a liquid clear coat that is applied over your decal using the synthetic pad applicator included in your kit. COURTDECAL GUARD dries quickly and is ready to play on after 6-8 hours of dry time!  Each decal kit includes enough COURTDECAL GUARD for one coat.  If additional coats of COURTDECAL GUARD are needed you can purchase it in quarts and 1/2 gallon packaging on our site.  COURTDECAL GUARD has been tested and approved over most brands of digitally printed vinyl.  Be sure to test COURTDECAL GUARD over a small section of your digitally printed vinyl if supplied by others.   COURTDECAL GUARD can be used coat over, protect, and provide slip-resistance on digitally printed vinyl used on gym floors, grocery stores, shopping centers, and concrete floors.  Do not use on walls or ceilings unless sprayed.

    How is a COURTDECAL installed?

When you receive your kit, unpack your COURTDECAL and place it on a flat surface for one hour prior to installation. Clean the court surface by removing any dirt, dust, or grit. Then spray COURTDECAL PREP on the court surface where your decal is to be installed and wipe using a microfiber towel or mop. Allow COURTDECAL PREP to dry 5-10 minutes. Measure the exact location on the floor you want your decal installed. With your COURTDECAL in place, facing up, fasten it to the floor using a strip of blue tape. Flip half the decal over and remove the wax backing. Beginning at the center of the decal, and squeegee it to the floors surface. Follow the same steps and squeegeee the second half of your decal onto the court surface. This method of installation is called the “hinge method.”  Remove the white application tape which covers and protects your decal during installation. Mask around the edges of your decal with blue tape included in your kit, and apply one coat of COURTDECAL GUARD using the synthetic pad applicator included in your kit. If you are using your decal for a weekend tournament — one coat may be sufficient, but 2-3 coats are recommended.  Allow COURTDECAL GUARD to dry 6-8 hours before you play. How do you avoid getting COURTDECAL GUARD on my existing court surface? After your COURTDECAL is squeegeed onto your court surface you should mask the edges of the decal using blue tape. If your COURTDECAL requires a contour cut line around the artwork there will be several inches of extra vinyl run-off beyond the contour cut line. This allows you to coat over your entire logo and onto the run-off vinyl (or blue tape). Peel the run-off vinyl off the floor (or the blue tape) after the COURTDECAL GUARD has dried.  A thumb drive instructional video is included with your kit.

When can you play on the COURTDECAL?

Allow COURTDECAL GUARD to dry for 6-8 hours and then it’s ready for Basketball, Volleyball, or other court sports action!  If you plan to apply extra coats of COUTDECAL GUARD so you have a thicker protective “shield” over your decal, allow each coat to dry 3-4 hours before the next coat(s) is applied.  There is no abrading needed between coats if the prior coat(s) of COURTDECAL GUARD haven’t dried longer than 48 hours.

How is a your COURTDECAL removed?

Just grab an edge with your finger nail and peel it off the floor. If you notice any of the floor finish underneath the decal lifting or peeling – stop and use a heat gun to remove the remainder of the decal. Do not tear off quickly. Remove the decal slow and pay attention to the gym floor surface underneath to prevent damage.

    Are COURTDECALS re-usable?

After your COURTDECAL has been peeled off the floor it can no longer be used and should be discarded.

How do I clean my COURTDECAL?

Clean your gym floor surface as you normally do every day however avoid running auto-scrubbers over your COURTDECAL. Do not wet mop your COURTDECAL because moisture can get under your decals edges which may cause delamination. You can dry mop your COURTDECAL using the same mop used on the gym floor. You can aslo clean your decal using the COURTDECAL PREP. Spray and wipe using a microfiber flat mop or microfiber towel.

Be careful of Vinyl Wrap companies claiming their decals can be installed permanently on Maple Sport Surfaces.

Vinyl decals should only be used for temporary or semi-permanent applications only on maple sport floors.  If you want a permanent logo it should be painted during your next full refinishing, or during your next annual re-coating service.   Maple flooring surfaces naturally expand and contract, and are installed over subfloors that allow for vertical deflection to protect your athletes when running and jumping.  A vinyl decal will eventually fail and the protective coating, or gym finish applied over the top will eventually begin to delaminate.   If you drop a heavy item onto your decal they can be damaged much more easily than a painted logo.   Additionally during your annual screen and re-coating the seams of your vinyl decal can easily be damaged during the screening process.

*All COURTDECAL kits are digitally printed on white removable vinyl.  Each round or shaped center logo decal does include a printed trim line around your decal that can easily be cut by hand before installation using scissors, or after installation using a razor knife. If you need your decal die-cut please indicate that information in the notes section of your order.  Die-cutting does require extra time and we charge $75.00 to $150.00 extra to die-cut each decal (depending on size and shape).  Die-cutting center jump circles is an extra $200.00.    A proof will be emailed to you prior to production.  Expect 1-2 weeks for production after approval of artwork, plus delivery time.
